Rejuran Polynucleotide Treatment

Melbourne Eastside Dermatology is Melbourne’s premium specialist dermatology practice providing Rejuran polynucleotide treatments.  This is one of the most popular treatments in Korea.

In Australia, only qualified medical doctors are able to prescribe the use of this medication for cosmetic purposes.  Nurse injectors require the prescription and treatment plans / supervision of medical doctors to perform these injections.

What is Rejuran® Polynucleotide?

Rejuran® originated from Korea in 2014, and became one of the most popular cosmetic treatments there.  It gained TGA approval and became available in Australia as a prescription-level treatment early 2024.

DOT™️ DNA Optimizing Technology

Rejuran® is made of wild salmon polynucleotide (PN) DNA fragments, extracted using our proprietary DOT™️ technology (DNA Optimizing Technology).

Unlike hyaluronic acid skin boosters, REJURAN® consists of bio-active DNA molecules that stimulate regeneration and repair damaged skin while reducing unwanted inflammation.  Rejuran® increases the proliferation of fibroblast cells, promoting long-term elastin and collagen growth in skin. It can be used across the face and addresses concerns, including skin texture, loss of elasticity, lack of hydration, uneven and dull skin tone, fine lines, oil production, pore size and acne scars.

What MEDerm use Rejuran for?

With the wide range of treatment options available for cosmetic enhancements, it is reasonable to ask ‘Why do I need this treatment over other treatments?’  The short answer is, every practitioner has their own preferences and every patient is individual.

In MEDerm, we would consider strongly this treatment for the following indications:

  • Eyelid rejuvenation – this is the ONLY needle-injection-treatment that can be administered under the skin of the eyelids, to reduce wrinkling, dullness and improve texture, which in turn can address the fine lines, tiredness, sagging, and the perceived dark eye circle in the area.
  • Improving skin texture, elasticity and collagen build up.
  • Pigmentation – when combined with laser modalities, skin dullness may. be improved, and the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can be reduced.
  • Pores – Stand-alone treatment or in combination with radiofrequency, needling or laser treatments.
  • Inflammatory changes or rosacea – Combining with vascular or IPL therapy, to achieve reduction of fine blood vessels and vascular changes.
  • An alternative option of rejuvenation to improve skin quality and glow, if you have already tried the other treatments such as skinbooster or bioremodelling injections.

In MEDerm, we usually perform this with fine needle placements, or with an injection-gun for a more rapid full face treatment.

Skin Texture, Glow and Luminosity

The polynucleotide (DNA fragments) needle placement into superficial skin layers is performed to improve the photo-aging and skin texture, with the aim to improve the glow and luminosity of the skin.

Eyelid Rejuvenation

Rejuran is the only treatment option available (accurate as of 2014) from needle-placement on the skin of eyelids.  This is used to improve wrinkling, sagging/eye bags, skin thinning and improve the discolouration of the eyelids / dark eye circle.  This is perhaps the commonest usage of this treatment.

Pores and Scarring Improvement

Polynucleotide placement into the porous and sebaceous skin area can be performed on it own , or can be combined with other treatment modalities such as Nano-Radiofrequency, Microneedling-with-Radiofrequency or Pico lasers to enhance the treatment result.

Pigmentation, Vascular Change and Enhancement of Laser Therapy

MEDerm has a range of laser therapies and will discuss using Rejuran to enhance treatments of pigmentation, vascular changes, scarring and textural improvement.

What is Rejuran?

Rejuran is a treatment that originated from South Korea.  It is made of wild salmon polynucleotide (This can be imagined as the DNA building blocks that were separated and then put together with scaffolding material), and is delivered to the superficial skin layer with fine needles or needle-injection-guns.

Why is Rejuran so popular in South Korea?

Aside from the fact that this was created and produced in South Korea, this had been available for consumers since 2014, widely used by clinicians there, and made popular by celebrities.

The safety and relatively low downtime, coupled with the rejuvenation effect has created this popularity both in South Korea and worldwide.

Is Rejuran (wild salmon DNA polynucleotide) safe?

The safety track record of Rejuran has been documented since 2014.  This is considered one of the safer injection-treatment option compared to other needle-injection treatment options.

How is the safety of Rejuran compared to other forms of injectable treatments?

Rejuran is completely different from the hyaluronic acid administered via needle, and is not known to carry the same risk of vascular occlusion.

How is Rejuran treatment performed?

A small needle with the syringe of Rejuran is placed into the superficial layer of skin, with multiple injection points separated by about 3-5mm apart.  Therefore, each lower eyelid will require multiple injection points.

We may also utilise the injection gun for a more rapid treatment done on the face.

While the tiny needles still feel like pinpricks, with topical anaesthesia, the eyelid treatment is usually tolerated well.

Is Rejuran treatment painful?

We recommend a minimum of 30min topical anaesthesia, and as the eyelid skin is relatively thin, the injection pin pricks sensation is usually well tolerated on the eyelids.

On the cheeks and face, the skin is thicker and it may be more painful.

How do I look in the following days?

Immediately after injection, you will see tiny blebs of fluid directly under the skin.  This generally settles down after a day, although many patients are able to see some evidence of mild swelling over a few days.

It is also possible that small amount of bleeding/bruise under the skin of eyelids, which can last for a few days (or rarely, longer).

How many treatments do I need?

For eyelid rejuvenation, we generally recommend 3 treatments, a few weeks apart to achieve the initial result.  Subsequently, depending on the need, it may be repeated every 6-12 months (but some may choose to repeat every few months).

For full face treatment, we would generally recommend combining treatments with other modalities such as laser, radiofrequency, or other injectables.

Is Rejuran costly?

We do not advertise the direct costing online, but Rejuran-per-treatment cost is in the ball park figure of other bioremodelling or skinbooster treatment.

Is Rejuran a safe treatment for Asian or darker skin?

Rejuran is safe for all skin colour types – being darker skin does not confer any additional risk.

Can I return to normal activities after Rejuran treatment?

You may see slight swelling under the skin for a day (up to a few days), but most patients do not need to take time off from their work or daily activities to perform this procedure.

If you have an important event coming up (for example a wedding), please allow for at least a few weeks in case of minor bruising that is slow to resolve.

What is the cost of Rejuran treatment?

We do not publish the cost of treatment online.  Please leave a query below, or ring 98786813 to arrange a time convenient for you to discuss with our cosmetic liaison officer.

While we are a specialist practice, the costing of our laser is in line with the expertise of our doctors / nursing staff and the technology we utilise
